Graduate Elma Miza Featured in Seattle Met Magazine

10.20.2014

The AD&D program is very excited to announce that a vest by recent graduate Elma Miza was featured in a fashion spread for the October issue of Seattle Met magazine. We sat down with Elma and asked her more about her experience at AD&D, where she is now, and what advice she would give future students.

What first got you interested in fashion and why did you choose the School for Apparel Design and Development?

Elma:  Well I wouldn't say that I was interested in fashion so much as I was interested in creating well made, quality clothing.  My father was a tailor and I have been sewing since I was five years old.  I knew I wanted to make timeless pieces that didn't necessarily need to follow any fashion trends.  The reason why I chose AD&D was because I had heard only great things about the program and that it was very well respected in the industry.  I had an absolutely amazing experience at the school and received endless support from the instructors.

What are you currently doing in your apparel career?

Elma: Right now I am a designer and own my own clothing company called Man.tis.  You can currently purchase my pieces at Oska downtown.

What advice would you give to the students who will be graduating in the spring?

Elma:  I would tell them to take their Final Lines and the portfolio show very seriously.  Approach the people that come to the show, encourage them to touch the garments and get a closer look.  Engage in conversation with them.  This is how I was discovered as a designer and it has lead me to amazing opportunities.  Also, if you are going to be a designer, stay true to who you are, what you like, and what you really want.
